The young man who was accused of an altercation on and off the road with the mayor of League City Toni Randall, Denshay “D.J.” Benson, 18, was found in his home with a gunshot wound to the head.
Benson was charged with deadly contact with a vehicle and assualt with bodiliy injury. For a period of time, evidence in the case against him for went uncollected by Clear Lake Shores police because the complainant failed to provide evidence such as X Rays or other records from a hospital or doctors visit to substiantiate claims of injury. This caused delays in the case moving through the system.
Outsiders seek the truth too in this case.
A plea bargain deal was set for last week, but the meeting never took place. The DA would not comment on the reasons why the meeting did not take place. One can only imagine that this issue weighed heavily on this young man and that its fair resolution was important to him. D.J. has maintained that he was never the aggressor throughout the entire process of this case. News article May 21 2009 This is a tragedy for his family and the community.
